A nice cleaned up version of the comment stop plugin is now running here. Link posting in the forum and comment sections is now class controlled. Like many other webmasters I believe that real genuine natural linking should be allowed on interactive sites (none of this rel nofollow business!) so it’s great to allow trusted users this option.
Moderation can now be enabled in two ways, either each and every post can be manually approved or a one off moderation can be used. The idea being that if a clearly human response to a content item is entered then that user can be marked as trusted. Of course bots will attempt to post a clean comment first and then a link stuffed comment after, but by only approving quality first posts this should help weed out spam.
Some spammers now even use human entry, but this plugin allows instant removal of the user and all their posts, so it will always be much more resource intensive for them than for you.
Some more tidying up to do at the weekend, but this should be close to a release 🙂
