Random Comment Text Appearing from Anonymous Users

Note: This is an old post and I do not currently use e107, please visit their forums for e107 help. For more information on my current money making hobby websites please see here.

CommentStop

The good news is that CommentStop seems to be doing its job. But here is the curious thing, since opening up comments to anonymous users, I have been getting random entries such as:

acnhydl_zawtgchl eg: kuhm armfvboi wmxauf reaxy rgqpjmtdx eihvygjmq ahkqto

The tools within CommentStop allow for instant deletion of all of these so it’s not much of a biggy deal but I’m starting to think about how I can block them automatically. To date I dont have a good plan as to how to pick these out, perhaps banning certain combinations of letters that don’t regularly appear in nicks.

For example mq, kq, vy, etc. If such a combination is picked up the comment isnt posted.

IP Logging

A second feature I want to add is logging of all IPs and the number of rejected posts from each one. In the admin area it will then be possible to report on these so that they can be added to your server level ban list.

Comment Spam Update

But otherwise I have had no spammers register at all recently, no spam posts, nothing. Is that just luck or have they given up now that links aren’t posted? I guess time will tell. I won’t be holding my breath, these things never go away for long! But for now, CommentStop seems to be doing it’s job.
