If, like me, you do everything you can to write genuine targeted content that you hope will be relevant if not always entirely useful ( I do try!) you probably get very annoyed when you come across sites that are blatently gaming Google. It is of course true that we all do our best to get our sites ranked highly in Google but there is actually nothing wrong with this as long as you follow the web master guidelines. Google make no secret of what you can and can’t do to help them rank your site well. Afterall, it is in their interest to encourage us all to tag and label our sites correctly so that they can identify what we are talking about.
However there are some sites that are clearly just set up to get into the search engines without offering anything to the Internet. I recently came across an example whilst doing some netbook research. I won’t name the site but it essentially consisted of random on topic words mashed up to form some kind of article which, I guess, looks like real text to Google’s algorithm. In reality though the site content was total gibberish, not a single sentence made any sense!
Keep an eye out for things such as:
- Hidden text or links
- Misleading or repeated words
- Page does not match Google’s description
- Doorway pages
- Duplicate site or pages
If you see anything like this, just report it here and help keep the Internet clean!
