I asked Vidahost about this a while back and I’m pleased to hear that they are listening to their customers.
You should be aware that Google is putting more and more weight on secure encrypted sites and that means SSL encryption, ie https. Google will rank these higher and have even started warning users against insecure sites – a sure fire way to ensure someone hits the back button before even reading your content.
Whilst SSL used to be for ecommerce only and was out of reach for the home web builder, it is now a must for any hobby site owner. Fortunately hosts such as Vidahost now offer Lets Encrypt support so we can get setup for free!

How to add a Let’s Encrypt certificate on Vidahost
It’s real easy. Just go to your control panel and select the Let’s Encrypt icon:
There are some further notes and advise to read. Vidahost are diligent enough to point out that Let’s Encrypt has its limitations and may not be suitable for a “mission critical” pro site and they suggest their paid for certification may be more appropriate.
As a hobby blogger this doesn’t really bother me, to be honest the paid for approach would add a large cost to my hosting and it just makes things uneconomical. So the free approach seems the way to go and it is already trusted by vast numbers of users around the net.

This is easy enough, just update http to https under your general settings:
